UN Meeting about Upcoming Sudan Referendum

As some of you may have heard in the news, there was a special meeting at the UN this past Friday to discuss concerns about the referendum on the independence of South Sudan scheduled to take place on January 9, 2011. US President Barak Obama, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, South Sudan President Salva Kiir and Khartoum Second Vice President Ali Osman Taha participated. Both north and south were urged to respect the tenets of the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement and carry out the referendum peacefully and respectfully.
