A Look Inside Mercy House Chapel

The chapel at the House of Mercy has been open for three weeks now, and is being used more frequently as the days go by. Most days at around noon there are a group of children who pray the Rosary there. A women’s prayer group comes for adoration twice a week. We have a Holy Hour with Lectio Divina once a week for the youth group, and of course our own daily prayers. As I write this, I can hear one of the youth missionaries in the chapel teaching some children the Hail Mary.

We wanted to frame some large poster-size images of Jesus, but there’s no place in Torit Town that can frame something that large. So we decided at least in the mean time to hang some of the banners we’ve used with our mobile evangelization events. They look so good in the chapel, though, we may just keep them there.

There’s a little more work to do before the chapel will be completely finished. Next week we’re planning to install a bamboo ceiling which we hope will reduce the heat a little from the sheet metal roof, as well as add a touch of local natural beauty to this place of prayer.
