A New Priest!

On December 13, the Third Sunday of Advent, the Catholic Community of Torit, along with the Bishops of Sudan - still in town for their annual meeting, gathered on the grounds of the cathedral on the outskirts of town for the ordination to the priesthood of Taban David Kamerino.

Frs. Ambrose and Joseph Ochan (above),
Deacon Nelson and Fr. Joseph Aruma (below).

A large number of priests from Torit and Juba were present, along with government officials and an enthusiastic turn out of laity from different parishes in the diocese.

The main celebrant and ordaining prelate was His Eminence, Cardinal Gabriel Zubeir Wako of Khartoum, who had just arrived the day before.

The other bishops and priests concelebrated and, as a gesture of priestly communion, all imposed hands on the head of Fr. David following the cardinal. The celebration continued in the afternoon with entertainment, activities and speeches and a dinner for special guests.

Dear Fr. Herald,

Happy Christmas!!!

1)Thank you very much for your effort in trying to sustain us, both spiritually and culturally, by sending us those language materials, which are very much appreciated.
2) As you know, I have access to a large Sudanese audience from around the world, and anything of this good nature, I will be more than willing to share with the rest. So, I will try to distribute these materials to our Sudanese Diasporan who may benefit from it, as widely as I can.
3)I thought it would have been easy to get drums for us from the surrounding villages, because, I believe they do make drums of various sizes in those villages. Anyway, whatever possible is much appreciated. For Africans, there is no rhyme without drums.
4)It is a good news to see Torit Diocese, ordaining a new priest, moreover, someone whom I personally knew and together, we endured the same hardship. Say my congratulation to Fr. David Taban. Taban, as you might have already known is the name of the first ever Bishop of Diocese of Torit, Parede Taban, Bishop Emeritus of Torit. Taban in our simple Arabic dialect, means "suffering." From the time immemorable, there have been as many kids named Taban as the number of the kids who were born in South Sudan, because all went through the same ordeal of suffering. At any rate, let's wish Fr. David Taban to be inspired by the many Tabans to make differences in lives of others. Jesus suffered for us, therefore, we can even suffer more for the sake of humanity.
5)It is also good to witness the conference of Sudanese Catholic Bishops go well. Up-to-date, the Church remains as a force to make a meaningful change in the lives of the Sudanese people. So, the resolutions of this conference must be taken seriously or else, all go to hell.

With much Blessings.
