There were a number of other activities that took place in conjunction with the late afternoon/early evening mission program. Each morning the entire team attended Mass (except Thursday, when Mass was part of the mission program in the evening) followed by a Eucharistic Holy Hour.
On Wednesday morning two groups went out in different directions into nearby settlements to invite people to attend the remaining days of the popular mission.
As in Nimule, after the conclusion of the mission we burned objects used in witchcraft and superstitious practices that people spontaneously brought forward as an expression of their desire to break with those kinds of activities.
We had a closing session with the local and foreign teams to discuss what worked best, make suggestions about things we might change in the future and share what moved or touched us personally during the popular missions and youth retreats.
We left Friday for Uganda, staying overnight with our friends at the Emmaus Center for Catholic Discipleship and Evangelization in Katikamu, before the team flew out on Saturday evening. Although their tickets were booked individually, the team all ended up with the exact same return itinerary, which enabled them to gather for Sunday Mass at the beautiful Catholic chapel in the Brussells airport between the flight from Africa and the one that took them home to the US.
