Today is Palm/Passion Sunday in Torit Town, as everywhere in the Christian world. It's a little easier to get palms here, though, than in the US and Europe, as you can tell by the palm tree growing in the background. Mass began with the blessing and distribution of palm branches in front of the bishop's residence, and continued with a procession to the parish church a block away. The Lotuko and English congregations were combined into a single Mass with special solemnity expressed in the music and dancing. The day was made even brighter by the arrival of the heavy rains earlier this week, which cleaned the air, cooled the temperatures and made everything greener, even if a bit muddier, too. Later this afternoon we will be showing The Passion of the Christ in a large hall just near where the photos below were taken.Sunday, April 5, 2009
