Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, Patronal Feast of the Diocese of Torit, Diocesan Conclusion of the Year for Priests

Priests of the diocese concelebrating Mass.
This past Sunday the Diocese of Torit celebrated its patronal feast day, the Solemnity of the Apostles Peter and Paul, and also formally closed its celebration of the Year for Priests. Over twenty priests from the diocese were able to join Bishop Emeritus Paride Taban and hundreds of lay faithful for Mass on the grounds of the cathedral. Unfortunately Bishop Akio Johnson was not able to join us; he continues to receive medical treatment in Nairobi – please remember him in your prayers.

In the afternoon, following Mass, entertainment in the form of songs, dances and skits, was provided by different groups – including a skit by our own group of youth.

On Monday, many of the priests who were in town for the occasion stopped by Mercy House to receive the gift of a new clerical shirt and pick up other items that were donated by friends and benefactors in the US and brought by the recent visiting mission team. Thanks to the generosity of the donors more than half of the parishes of the diocese received liturgical items (vestments, monstrances, chalices, pattens, etc.) and most of the priests received a personal gift.
