| Youth in St. Joseph Church for evening adoration. |
After doing so much preparatory work, it was a strange experience to be in Nairobi while the youth retreat was taking place in Narus. But, after all, it was Pentecost weekend, and the Holy Spirit is the God of surprises. And as it turned out the team did a fantastic job. Despite the reduced number of students who returned to the different schools in Narus because of the food shortage, in the end – with young people who came from the local community – we had more participants than we originally planned for: about 120 in all.

Since he was the only priest present, Fr. Sylvester covered all the Masses and heard confessions, and everyone else stepped up as well, helping with music, talks, small group discussions.

The retreat was held in St. Joseph’s Parish Church and the local community joined us for the closing Mass on Sunday. It was an extremely positive experience for the youth. The whole team was united the next day (Monday) when those of us who arrived from Nairobi arrived in time for lunch. Afterward we all headed on together to Chukudum.
